Black men, women and children were sold like cattle in order to satiate the perverse ideology of white supremacy. Children were sold from their mothers before they could understand what was happening. Women were routinely raped by those maintaining power over them. Men were tortured, lynched and mutilated to make the purpose of their “peculiar institution” known to history.
